↗ Task
MAN has developed a concept vehicle that operates fully electric and has been optimized for the specific conditions of an urban environment. In order to not exclusively showcase the physical truck at the IAA trade fair, we were commissioned to make the vehicle experienceable at home as well.
↗ Planning
To gather all the important information, we closely collaborated with the truck developers and asked them to describe the key features to us. Thanks to the detailed description we received, we were able to accurately put our ideas on paper. My team and I then created wireframes and collaborated with our 3D artists to develop concepts for the animations.
↗ Journey
To avoid overscaling the truck, we decided to let the user choose from three pre-set sizes. The initial size was then adjusted to fit the environment of tables (small), living spaces (medium), or roads (original size). After placing the truck, the user had the option to activate hotspots around and inside the vehicle’s cockpit, accessing animations that showcased the intended application and providing more detailed textual information. The app was released for a limited period on tablets and smartphones for iOS and Android.
↗ Learnings
The development of this application has proven that efficient collaboration is only possible when accepted by all parties involved. Particularly, the collaboration with the client was a crucial part that could be seen in the app’s successful implementation. The result was amazed users at the trade fair and at home, who enthusiastically embraced this special form of presentation.
